Making the best of my "Extra"

I have been working a lot the last few weeks for a guy in the flooring business. He is overloaded this time of year and had a few BIG projects that he needed some help on and was good enough to offer me the work. The work is hard but the money is GOOD !! It's hard to call any money "extra" if you ask me, who ever has enough anyway let alone "extra". But at least this is over and above the normal for me so "extra" is ok with me as long as I have it. I wanted to make sure I put this money to good use and buy things that were needed and maybe even just wanted a little bit too.

I bought this 50 Cal. CVA Wolf 209 Magnum Break - Action Muzzle Loader today at Walmart. $217.00, I know that this is not what one would call a Survival gun by any means but it will put meat on the table when the time comes. Not the most practical of guns on the market but this is something that I "wanted" for some time now. I have pretty well busted my but for this money and I thought I should get something out of it that I wanted too. Shame on me...

On my every weekend trip to the local flea market I ran up on this Bear Bruin Compound Bow in really good condition. A crisp 20 dollar bill and I was the new owner. Once again, it will put meat on the table. Also makes a real good stealth weapon. This is a picture of what it looks like, got the pic off the web, family is gone this weekend with the camera. But you get the idea.

The Jeep will get a new round of rubber next week sometime and some new brake pads all around as well as shocks. Then she will be good to go. I have a few more projects lined up for the extra money but have to wait until I have more time. Been working some long hours, only 45 this week, 65 hours the week before. I think we have one more job that will last about a week and then the rush will be over for a while. May get a few more jobs as time goes by but just have to wait and see. I'll be glad to take the extra work and the extra money when ever it comes.

This and That

Finally got a chance to zero in the scope and the Marlin 60. Didn't take very long at all. My target was set at 75 yards and I shoot in groups of three when I'm trying to site in a new scope. Three shots and then I take a walk up to the target to see what's going on. I could use Binoculars I suppose but I need the exercise and it gives me time to relax a little too. First three were about 1 1/2 foot low and about 6 inches to the left. All three were very close, inside of about 2 inches of each other. After a few more groups I was able to fine tune the scope and get her just right. All shots now are within a 2 inch circle at 75 yards. I'm ok with that.

Still not got the Hi Point 995 back into action just yet. Not really took the time to get the new clip release on order, may do that tonight. So no target practice with that one yet. Be nice to play with the red dot laser a bit. Need to get back on that project. I'll keep you updated.

In other news, I had to go to town today ( I hate that ). Neighbor ran out of fuel right in the middle of the road. A grown man ran out of gas and he had money, just" didn't notice" he said. Can you believe that? I never let any of mine get under 3/4's of a tank and this guys runs out! Anyhow, he called and ask me to bring him some gas so, I did. Got him fueled up and sent him on his way. While I'm in town I might as well make it a useful trip for me too, ya know. Picked up more lids and rings for my caning jars. Probably should try to do that each time I go to town really. You will need them in the future and, always thinking of future barter items, I will be getting more.

Keeping an eye on WHO these last few days too. They seem hell bent on raising this "pandemic" level to 6. I have no reason why but feel that there is more to it than we will ever know. Level 6 would give nanny.gov just what they want, more control. Martial law, quarantine, restricted travel.........the list goes on and on. That is what this "epidemic" is all about, control. I'm not saying that there is not a threat of a flu type virus, there's always a threat. So stay prepared as best you think you need to for this. I have plenty of goodies in my preps if this becomes a real, in your backyard kinda threat and you should too. Always try to stay ahead of the game on these things. Buy what you think you will need, this applies to any and all of your preps. Wait til the threat is knocking on your door and then try to get your preps and you will most likely find empty shelves. You have been warned by me and thousands of others so, it's your move.

But I have run in to a few little problems. Story of my life these days. The magazine release button and spring were broken on my old stock, found that out when taking it apart. It worked fine in the old stock because it was such a tight fit nothing could really move. So, I have to order a new one. Plus there is a little adjustment that needs to be made concerning the bolt action. It's a little tight and drags. All I have to do is file down the inside of the stock some and it will be fine. Not going to worry about it until I get the new mag release. I'll have to take it back apart then anyway. Also you have to cut a place in the lower forearm for the laser thumb switch cord to run out the side. That was no trouble at all, a few seconds with a hacksaw blade. So I guess I at a stand still again. To be continued.....

How to throw a knife: The throw(instructions for right handers)Here you will actually learn how to throw a throwing knife. Let's begin with the stance: your right foot is the back one (toes at distance mark), your left foot is in front, the gap between the two is about two feet (your actual foot, not the measure). The heels are on a line. The two feet form a 45° angel (left 12 o`clock, right 13:30 o`clock position) or wider. Both knees are bent, especially the front one. The weight rests primarily on the ball of your back foot (behind your toes).Both arms are straight and point to the target, which is in the height of the chest. The right arm now makes a round and smooth swing to the back, the knife is even behind the head. Then it swings forward towards the target, like you wanted to chop off some branch between you and the target. While swinging forward, the weight is shifted to rest on the front foot, the chest follows this movement. The right shoulder does not move, it remains in a (tilted) line with the left.

For the throw, the weight is shifted to the left foot while the right arm with the knife is brought to the front. As the knife arm is about in line with the left one and points exactly to the target, quickly let the knife go and snap your fingers back together. Do not stop the swing of the knife throw, go on with the movement. This is called follow through and considered very important for a good stick.Compare the description of John`s knife throwing style, where the knife throw motion sequence is explained again, or the pictures at Throwdini.If you do not need your left arm for aiming any more, you can draw it back when beginning the forward movement. Later, you can even employ your hip to add to the power of the knife throw (long distance only). As already explained, it is important that you get the whole movement into your muscle-memory, that you do it the same way every time. Then find the distance where the knives stick. That is the only way, force or sharp blades won't help.
Lightweight throwing knives (with 100g or even less) float or wobble in the flight if thrown slowly. For them, you can use the snap throw described here. Be aware that the sudden movements will take a toll on your muscles and joints, it will hurt after a while!Hold the knife in a pinch grip. Both arms are straight, stretched out towards the target. Now draw back your right arm. Your upper arm is now in one line with your shoulders. The forearm points to the sky, a little in the direction of your head. The right hand is a little bit above your ear, and the knife is in one straight line with the forearm.Now draw the knife arm back (behind your back), then jerk it back to the front, towards the target. Even better then a jerking movement is one where you draw the knife forcefully to the front, a little bit like the knife was attached somewhere in your back with a rubber band. The weight is now shifted to your front foot, the chest swings towards the target. Again, the right shoulder does not move.

Some hints:
When training the throwing movements, take care that the arm is stretched out completely and the knife points exactly to the target when you release it.
To protect your joints, do not stretch out your arm to the fullest, but stop the movement with your muscles.
Again: The wrist remains stiff!

Blowgun Hunting

Been reading some more about the usefulness of blowguns and found some sites and pics I though you may enjoy. I love this picture, this guy is pretty serious. This guy killed a rabbit with his blowgun. Cheap and easy to use, now that's the kind of weapon we need to be thinking about. Not to mention how quite they are.

Blowgun Survival

We have been cleaning out some here at our place and I found a Blowgun that I forgot about having. I do that a lot, forget things. I bought this Blowgun about 10 years ago while on a little trip to TN. I think I got it at a Karate supply store. Pretty cheap from what I remember, maybe 10 or 15 bucks. I'm sure I would not have paid much more than that at the time. It's really pretty nice, 5ft. long aluminum and it even has a 10 dart quiver and shoulder strap. This is the darts that came with it, (you can buy broad head type darts) they are about the size of a pencil lead. I'm not the kinda guy that has plenty of lung power (I'm smoker trying to quit) but even with this little dart you can easily penetrate a board. I mean to the point that you have to take pliers to get it out. With a little practice I can see where one could hit a target at say 20 - 25 yards very consistently. This is another time test weapon that is still being used today by tribes around the world. Cheap, Stealth ammo delivery. And you can make one yourself, gun and darts. Just another example of a primitive weapon that is available. Your arsenal doesn't have to be full of expensive guns that are both loud and costly to shoot, pretty cool if it is though. hehe!!

I'm pretty sure anyone can find the cash for this great survival and defense weapon. Hey man, people have been hunting with these things for years so don't blow off the idea of owning a blowgun. Search the net and see what you can find and I'm sure you will be impressed with the price and possibility of these time tested and proven weapons that anyone can buy.

New Weapon on Order

Been wanting a Crossbow for some time now and decided it was time to make the purchase. Not available until Jan 12 but I'm on the list anyway. Nice quite and stealth like weapon. I have read that any crossbow with at least 120 lb draw will kill and large animal in North America. This baby comes in at 175 lbs. Follow the link and watch the video. I think this will be a great item to have for any hunter or prepper. Plus when I practice I can get my ammo back = less cost.
