Bug out time ?? by Dean in AZ

I'd like to thank Bullseye for letting me do a guest posting! Hope you all like it and think about it.
Thursday night, you watch the 10 o'clock new's.A bombing here,a shooting there,a speech by somebody..same thing last night. It's friday morning, you wake up at 5:30..way too early, but it's the last workday,so,it's ok.You tippy toe around the house, don't want to wake the wife or kid's,as you'd catch heck all weekend.Flip on the coffee pot,hit the switch on the computer. Darn puter won't connect, keep's giving some stupid error message.Modem crapped out,the phone company, something, whatever. You grab your lunchbox/briefcase/coffee mug,and jump into your car.Pop in a cd,crank the stereo up,jam to your fav tune's.Cruising to work, you notice a lot of traffic heading the other way."Must be some gov't holiday, people heading out of town for a long weekend,or maybe an accident that way...poor sucker's!" You get to work, notice there are a lot less car's there than normal, you get a great parking space! COOL! You get to your cubicle, set your stuff down, turn on the puter, head to the break room for more coffee.Wow,the pot is almost full! I must be early! You chit chat with a few people, head back to your desk, sign on the puter to see your fav place's,catch up on mail or whatever. A typical day, right? Maybe not..You've been asleep for 8-10 hour's,missed out on anything that happened.Your puter headline say's WW3 or such started!A terrorist attack,a nuke plant in meltdown,(insert issue here).Great, your a half hour away from home, cell phone's are down, your wife and kid's are still asleep, and with the traffic you saw,at least an hour drive to get home and bug out,if you can.Now what? What's my point? NEVER do anything without information! If you neglect the information you need, your behind the curve! In this situation, your already at least 1 1/2 hour's behind bugging out! Had you known this at 5;30 or 6,you'd be loading up instead of headed to work! Now you have to get home, wake up everyone, load up and hit the traffic. I have no clue as to why, probably budget reason's,but have you heard a civil defense siren lately? I live near a school, the first saturday of the month, they tested the system at noon.I haven't heard one in at least 10 year's.If you heard one today, you'd figure it's a car alarm going off.The radio station's do a test every few day's,so we're immune to it anymore. I remember 9/11,I woke up,turned on the TV,saw a headline...Plane hit's WTC..I didn't think much of it,figured it was some sight seeing flight,as we have a lot of crashes here at the grand canyon, not a big deal.I jump in the shower, come out to see the video, and saw the second plane hit live.My first thought was that it was an instant replay..but the first tower was already on fire..I was confused! How could 2 sight seeing plane's screw up within 20 minute's?How did they get the video? Whatever.Had I not turned on the TV,I'd never known, till I got to work, got coffee, had a smoke or 2,then turned on the radio. So,to wrap it up,check the new's EVERY morning! If not for bug out info, just for the traffic new's! Not only will it save time for if SHTF,you'll be 1 step ahead of everyone else, hopefully!

Let's face it..half the world is awake while we're asleep! If you wake up without the new's,whether it be right wing or left wing, you have no clue as to what's going on.Any new's is better than no new's.
Just show's my point..we're all into our cd player, satellelite radio, whatever. You have to stay current on current event's.Ignore the BS from washington, watch the world stuff!

I always drive into work listening to our local talk radio station, just to gain the main gist of whats going on in the world. Its better than nothing.

During the school year, my son is picked up very early by the bus. Being much more of a morning person than my wife (who can actually sleep a couple of hours with clock alarm blaring beside her), I'm in charge of that duty. No problem - I don't mind mornings. Kids and wife asleep gives me time to do things I can't when they are up, especially when concentration is involved.

I always make a point of watching the news before I wake him up, just in case something happened around the globe. Like you said, you just never know . . .

I always have news on when I get up, old habit. The civil defense siren got me thinking. We have one the goes off at noon every Monday. Ours has 3 distinct sounds, one for fire, one for tornadoes and one for air raids. One reason I love living in rural Kansas.

Being in the city currently, this is very good information and underlines the necessity of keeping ther BOB and such ready to go!

This situation is not that far fetched anymore, I'm afraid!

I live a few block's from a grade school, and I know it's been 10 year's since I've heard the Civil defense siren. They use dto test them every sat at noon, then the first sat of the month, then, never!Wonder if it still even work's.Here in Arizona, weather isn't a big issue, but we do have the largest nuclear plant...

Good post Dean. I reckon most of us have certain "trigger events" in mind that'll send us packin'. I hope that my "Spidey Sense" tips me off in time to G.O.O.D. before the mass exodus. Like you said, keeping up with current events will go a long way toward being ahead of the herd.

Just a tip, break your posts up into paragraphs, and it'll be much easier to read. I got this tip myself when I first started out blogging. Could be because of cut 'n' paste, and in that case, Bullseye, seperate the paragraphs!

Even between the time your kid get's on the bus,and you learning of bad new's may be too long.Granted,we can't watch the new's 24/7 either, but at least you realize it too!
Mayberry:
I thought I did do the paragraph thing, maybe it's email or the way he post's it.Didn't intend to make it annoying.
