Pressure Canner Parts and Canning as Barter

Kinda had trouble with my steam gauge for my 23 qt. Presto caner the last time I used it and have been searching for a parts outlet. After just a little while I came across this site.

Pressure Cooker Canner Co.

They seem to have a pretty good selection of parts for various pressure cooker and caners and their price is about the same as others I have found. My pressure caner is one of my favorite toys. Though it's NOT A TOY at all. These things can be very dangerous if not used properly. My caner has some safety features that make it much safer than some of the older caners.

If you are planning a garden to raise some if not all of your food a caner is a must. The thing that attracted me to canning was the fact that I could can things I raise myself or buy at a discount and not have to refrigerate it. I just sit my mason jars full of good food on a shelf and that's it. No need to worry about a power failure.

Canning is a great hobby and very useful skill to have as well. I just started last summer and have canned all kinds of things with a 100% success rate so far. I started out with making jams from strawberries and blackberries and then as my confidence grew I was canning green beans and corn and anything else that I had an abundance of from the garden.

Canning as a barter ??? Yes !!! Once people around where I live found out that I could and would can, they started to ask me to can things for them. They had a nice garden or fruit trees but lacked the skill, equipment and time to can their harvest. That's where I come in. They provide all the fruit, veggies or berries and their half of the canning jars and I provide the skill, time, equipment and other necessary ingredients...salt, pectin or whatever. I was able to provide a valuable service to others in my community and get LOTS of food in return that I didn't have to raise. This made it possible to have a good variety of goods other than what I am able to raise.

I learned my skills from online research here at this site. http://www.pickyourown.org/allaboutcanning.htm Trust me, they have instructions and pictures that anyone can follow. Canning is not rocket science, you can learn to can very easily. If I can do it I'm sure you will have no trouble at all. Here's the caner I use.
